NCBS & Fiddling Cricket Present The Kathy Kallick Band May 2 In Santa Clara
The Kathy Kallick Band will perform “hot bluegrass and cool originals” at the Mission City Coffee Roasting Company in Santa Clara on Saturday, May 2. The concert will be jointly presented by the Northern California Bluegrass Society and Fiddling Cricket music.
Kathy Kallick has been amongst the elite of contemporary songwriters and singers since co-founding the 5-person, all-female, Good ‘Ol Persons bluegrass band back in 1975. For 20 years and 5 albums she anchored the band with her luminous voice and original compositions. The band was one of the first to incorporate swing, Latin and other folk musics into bluegrass. In 1996 the Kathy Kallick Band was formed. In addition to the two albums the band released, Kathy has 4 other solo albums and a collaboration with Laurie Lewis. The current line-up is Kathy (vocals and rhythm guitar), Tom Bekeny (mandolin and vocals), Dan Booth (double bass and vocals), Greg Booth (dobro, banjo and vocals) and Annie Staninec, who tears it up on fiddle and vocals. Their live performances are always a delightful mixture of hot bluegrass and cool originals.”A profound songwriter and expressive singer…,” says Joe Ross, Bluegrass Now.
The listening room at Mission City Coffee Roasting Company is the South Bay’s premier acoustic music venue. Showtime is 8:00pm (Timing is good to make this a second stop after attending the Santa Cruz Bluegrass Fair that afternoon). Tickets are $15 advance/$17 door.
