Society Founder Cuzin’ Al Knoth Celebrates 40th Radio Anniversary With IIIrd Tyme Out April 9

Before there was the Northern California Bluegrass Society, there was the Cuzin’ Al Radio Show. In the 1960s and 1970s, Al Knoth did the South Bay/Santa Cruz bluegrass organizing, putting on festivals, concerts, and other gatherings — all held together by his radio program on KTAO Radio in Los Gatos. These efforts eventually laid the groundwork for the formation of the Santa Cruz Bluegrass Society (now the NCBS). For these efforts, Al recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NCBS Bluegrass On Broadway Festival.

Now Al is being honored once again. The “Cuzin’ Al Radio Show,” now on KPIG Radio in Freedom, is the longest-running bluegrass radio program in the nation — and on the show’s 40th anniversary, Tom Miller has put together a celebration.

The Cuzin Al’ Radio Show 40th Anniversary Celebration with Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out will be held Thursday, April 9, 7:30pm at Don Quixote’s, 6275 Highway 9, Felton. $14 advance, $16 door. (831) 603-229.
