Scott Gates has performed at the NCBS Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival for the past 4 years. Due to the break-up of his band, The Pacific Ocean Bluegrass Band, he will not be playing in Hollister in August. Instead, in 2009, he has a national TV date with Steve Martin.

Gates will play mandolin in banjoist Martin’s band to promote the new bluegrass album, “The Crow,” on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Memorial Day, Monday May 25. The program will air at 4:00pm on NBC-TV Bay Area (Channel 11, Cable Channel 3) in the San Francisco Bay Area. Times and stations will vary in other areas as the program is nationally syndicated.

DeGeneres is a native of New Orleans, with a taste for Southern music. Like Martin, she began her career as a comedian, before broadening the range of her entertaining to numerous additional fields.
