June Highlights From The NCBS Calendar

The NCBS Web Calendar has many exciting shows on the June schedule for your entertainment.

The big dog on the June calendar is, as always, the CBA Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, June 18-21. Most of you have been there before and don’t need to be told. If you’ve never been, there’s just one word for you: GO.

But there’s lots more going on in June as well. This Sunday, June 7, is the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association monthly jam from 1-5pm at the Hoover Middle School in San Jose. This jam is a great events for families and friends, musicians and non-musicians, fiddlers and non-fiddlers.  Beginner Circle will start at 2:00 PM.

The NCBS concert series at the Aromas Grange put on by Bill Hunter continues on June 14th. This series features bluegrass and other acoustic artists. This month it’s Santa Cruz singer/songwriter Alisa Fineman and her musical partner Kimball Hurd. This is a Sunday show with a 4:00pm start time.

Also that weekend is the San Francisco Free Folk Festival, featuring a wide range of music from around the world. Of particular interest to bluegrass fans are scheduled performances from Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum, the Earl Brothers, and 49 Special. Children’s performances, workshops, and dancing are also on the program. It all happens at Presidio Middle School in San Francisco, from noon to 10:00pm on June 13th and 14th.

Kathy Kallick & Laurie Lewis are teaming up to present a tribute to Vern & Ray (Vern Williams & Ray Park). They’ll perform at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley on the 12th, then bring the show to Grass Valley, appropriately enough appearing on the Vern’s Stage.

National touring acts coming to northern California in June include Missy Raines & the New Hip, the John Cowan Band, and the Austin Lounge Lizards.
