NCBS Members Are Ready For A Big September Of Festivals
September is the most crowded month on the Northern California bluegrass calendar and Northern California Bluegrass Society members are ready for some fun! Join us at these festivals:
Strawberry Fall Music Festival
Camp Mather, Yosemite
September 3-7
The West’s top bluegrass and eclectic roots music festival is held in a beautiful location just outside of Yosemite National Park. This is a very rare opportunity for last-minute deciders to easily acquire tickets and go, as the festival is not sold out. Thanks for your support!
Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention
Various venues, Berkeley
September 9-13
Under many names and organizers, the old-time community has gathered at events over the decades leading up to the 2009 convention, mostly held in the growing Berkeley arts district.
Jake’s Brown Barn Bluegrass Festival
Official website
September 11-13
San Martin-Ludwig Ranch Park, San Martin
This 4th year festival founded by the late Jake Quesenberry is small, fun, and good. Festival sponsor NCBS is joining in to help out the Quesenberry Family this year, as they carry on their late father’s dream. The venue is unchanged from past years — we knew it as the San Martin Country Park. This is a good year to discover Brown Barn if you haven’t before.
Old Time Bluegrass Festival
Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, Lower Lake
September 12
The Anderson Marsh Interpretative Association, Children’s Museum of Art & Science, and the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce stage this 4-year-old event to benefit science, history and performing arts education for Lake County children.
Bluegrassin’ In The Foothills
Amador County Fairgrounds, Plymouth
September 18-20
L & S Promotions welcomes us to the 7th renewal of their fine festival with the express understanding that, if we all come, they will have us back again in 2010. Times are hard for festivals — if attendance is down, they won’t be doing it again. No one ever had a bad time at Plymouth — Larry & Sondra Baker always see to that. Having a weekend of bluegrass fun has never been so patriotic!
Millpond Music Festival
Millpond County Park, Bishop
September 18-20
This is the 17th year for this eclectic festival of traditional music, staged by the Inyo County Council for the Arts in a stunning location below the towering Eastern Sierras.
Hobbs Grove Bluegrass Festival
Hobbs Grove, Sanger
September 25-27
Formerly called the King’s River Bluegrass Festival, this 10-year-old Fresno-area gathering is now a California Bluegrass Association event. It has nice festival grounds and good music onstage and off.
