Dry Humor, Tasty Instrumentals Highlight Last Evening’s Jaybirds Concert In Mountain View
John Reischman and the Jaybirds is known for tasty instrumental bluegrass and for the dry humor of its bandleader, as well as the band’s soaring harmony vocals. The Jaybird’s Redwood Bluegrass Associates concert in Mountain View last evening featured all three elements, but with extended onstage forays into spoken humor and instrumental tunes. The program concluded with a live performance of Reischman’s 1999 instrumental album “Up In The Woods” preceded by a suggestion by guitarist Jim Nunally that concert goers who wanted to get home early could just buy the album at the band’s record table and listen to it at home, rather than staying for the remainder of the concert. This unusual performance format was well-received by the packed house of devoted fans. Next for the NCBS-sponsored series: The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band on December 5th.
