NCBS Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival Now Officially At Bolado Park In The Town Of “Tres Pinos”

The Northern California Bluegrass Society’s Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival is not moving from Bolado Park, but it is changing towns from “Hollister” to “Tres Pinos.” The festival has, of course, always been in Tres Pinos, but a decision made  by organizers of the first festival in 1994 designated the larger, better-known community of Hollister as the “official” town location for promotional purposes. Now, the official location will be the same as the actual location:

The Northern California Bluegrass Society presents:

The 17th Annual Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival

Bolado Park, Tres Pinos, California

August 13-15, 2010

Bolado Park and the tiny hamlet of Tres Pinos are 7 miles south of Hollister on Old Airline Highway (Highway 25). Tres Pinos is Spanish for “Three Pines,” a very bluegrassy town name.

Bluegrassy indeed! I note that pines usually come in much larger groupings than three, and therefore three pines must be rather lonesome. Lonesome pines, of course, have a very strong association with bluegrass. The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers are even in the IBMA Hall of Fame!

“I hear the wind a-blowin’ through los tres pinos solitarios…”

Bolado Park is not in Tres Pinos. It is south of Tres Pinos in unincorporated San Benito County. Would it not make more sense to reference an event with a town of 36,000 than a town of 100. Dumb Move.

Kevin - sorry you don’t like the change. While it’s true that the park isn’t in “downtown” Tres Pinos, their street address is given as there (9000 Airline Highway, Tres Pinos, CA 95075). We felt the change would make it easier to find the festival using GPS, Google Maps, etc.
