The Pacifica-based band was formed last year at the school under the direction of third grade teacher Jared Katz.

The Stringband consists of students who gather at recess and lunchtime to play music. The kids started out on school-provided ukuleles and have moved on to other stringed instruments provided by their teacher. The band has performed on a bill with The Dim Lights at the Pacifica Moose Lodge.

Katz is a bluegrass picker on weekends. He says this is the most amazing thing he has seen happen in school during his nine-year career.

This will be the band’s first official bluegrass festival performance.

Bluegrass bands from San Francisco, Pacifica, Santa Cruz, Menlo Park, and Los Altos will appear at the festival. Jammers will play informal music around the grounds at this fun outdoor gathering.

The FREE festival will run 11:00am-6:30pm at The Surf Spot Restaurant, 4627 Coast Highway, Pacifica. Reservations are recommended. The Surf Spot will offer fine food and drink throughout the program.

Both the Northern California Bluegrass Society and the California Bluegrass Association welcome this event to bluegrass-music-rich Pacifica.
