| Don Reno | Founding Father of the Bluegrass Banjo |
| Review by Brenda Hough |

|
25 Song Collection including the many instrumentals and vocals that were either written or popularized during Don Reno's long career. Don Reno may not have the fame of Earl Scruggs, but as a member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys in the early days, he had an influence on all the banjo players to follow. Don later worked with Bill Harrell and Red Smiley, and his sons carry on the tradition as the Reno Brothers. The CD has a generous selection of 25 tunes including instrumental classics like "Feudin' Banjos," "Charlotte Breakdown" and vocals written by Don Reno that are now bluegrass classics: "The Talk of the Town," "I'm Using My Bible for a Roadmap," "Country Boy Rock and Roll," and "Long Gone." Don Reno also used jazz flavored tunes such as "Bye Bye Blues" and "Cincinnati Rag" and these tunes show the wide range of his instrumental skill on the banjo. This album belongs in everyone's collection of classic bluegrass. |
