About NCBS

The Northern California Bluegrass Society is a non-profit organization that exists to promote bluegrass music in northern California. The NCBS is member supported and run by volunteers. Its operations are overseen by the board of directors, also volunteers, elected by the membership.

The NCBS was founded in 1982 as the Santa Cruz Bluegrass Society. Over the years its scope grew to cover more than just the Santa Cruz area, and in 1999 the membership voted to change its name to the Northern California Bluegrass Society.

As we are a non-profit organization, donations are both tax-deductible and greatly appreciated!

Always Thinkin’ At The End: Gathering The Bluegrass Community
We have said it before: “Rock is a kind of music; bluegrass is a kind of community.”
The Bay Area bluegrass community is gathering together to help out some of our folks in need. A July 20 fire destroyed the San Francisco residence of Brewglass Boys Pam Brandon (aka Belle Monroe) & Tom Drohan, and Gayle Schmidt of the Hired Hands & the Toodola Ramblers. Keeping their lives rolling while their home is rebuilt over the next year is going to take a bit more than a few bucks in the tip jar. The area bluegrass associations, promoters and musicians are joining forces to stage a few benefit shows to help out — we will have the details soon. Hey, folks, thanks for your support!
