New Bluegrass Radio Show Hits The Airwaves In Boulder Creek On Thursday Evening March 1

A new weekly bluegrass program will be broadcast on KBCZ Radio in Boulder Creek beginning on Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 8:00 to 9:00pm.

The Brookdale Bluegrass Hour will be hosted by Eric Burman and Bruce Bellochio and will feature live and recorded music, plus interviews and bluegrass calendar information.

The hosts are both longtime leaders of the Northern California Bluegrass Society and festival and concert promoters. Bruce has hosted the longest-running KBCZ program for the past two and a half years. He is now joined by Eric and the format has expanded.

Bruce’s program was the first regular bluegrass music show to air in Santa Cruz County since the KPFA Cousin Al Radio Show (hosted by Al Knoth) ended its 46-year run in Watsonville over 5 years ago.

The broadcast can be heard throughout the San Lorenzo Valley at 90.1FM and online.

NCBS President Michael Hall will be a guest on the initial show.

Wildcat Mountain Ramblers & Stoney Mountain Ramblers To Appear Live December 12 On KKUP Monday Night Bluegrass

Host bands from two Northern California Bluegrass Society-welcomed events will perform live December 12 on Monday Night Bluegrass on KKUP Radio, 91.5FM in the South Bay & Monterey Bay Areas and Online.

The Stoney Mountain Ramblers (Menlo Park) host the annual Holiday Hootenanny at the Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company in San Carlos. The band will play on air and discuss the FREE 2016 multi-band gathering, set for this Friday evening, December 16.

The Wildcat Mountain Ramblers (Los Gatos) host the year-old Thursday Bluegrass Series at the Summit House Beer Garden & Grill near Los Gatos. The band will play live on air and discuss the FREE weekly performances featuring various bluegrass bands in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The host of Monday Night Bluegrass is Mike Russell. Michael Hall will be on hand to interview the bands. The program will run 6:00-9:00pm.

Mike Russell is the show’s host and Michael Hall will interview the bands for the live performance portion of the long-running bluegrass radio broadcast.

Bill Evans of Richmond will bring his banjo to play some tunes live in the studio and talk about this week’s California Banjo Extravaganza shows in Santa Cruz, Winters, Palo Alto & Berkeley.

The Northern California Bluegrass Society will welcome the Extravaganza’s Saturday evening Redwood Bluegrass Associates concert in Palo Alto.

Later in the evening, NCBS/SCBS Santa Cruz Bluegrass Fair Chair Ona Stewart will bring his Santa Cruz-based band, The Naked Bootleggers to KKUP for a live in-studio performance and an update on the band’s busy schedule.

new-kkup-logo-2There is big news in bluegrass radio — KKUP-Cupertino is now Streaming Live on the internet. The station has the most bluegrass programming in the Bay Area.

The new service will bring bluegrass music to the world for the first time on Monday, September 14, 2015, 6:00-9:00pm.

The program host will be Mike Russell and the live music will be provided by the Stoney Mountain Ramblers. Michael Hall will interview the band about the group’s performance at the upcoming Foggy Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Pacifica. Lars Bourne will engineer the live music program.

Alabama Bow Ties Set For Good Old Fashioned; On KKUP Monday Night Bluegrass June 8

The Alabama Bow Ties (San Francisco) are set to play at the August 6-9 Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival at Bolado Park Event Center in Tres Pinos. The 22nd annual festival is a benefit for the Northern California Bluegrass SocietyAdvance Tickets are on sale through July 22.

The band will perform on Monday Night Bluegrass on KKUP Radio, 91.5FM in the South Bay & Monterey Bay Areas, 6:00-9:00pm on June 8. The hot new traditional bluegrass band will talk live in the studio about the GOF and the other festivals on their summer schedule. Janet Thompson and Mike Thompson will also play live. And…Max Schwartz of the OMGG Reunion band will call in for a live interview. Mike Russell hosts the show and Michael Hall will do the interviews.

Cuzin’ Al Knoth To Celebrate 45 Years On Bluegrass Radio

Peter Thompson To Host National Weekday Bluegrass Radio Show

40-year radio veteran Peter Thompson will host a one hour national bluegrass radio show Monday-Friday at 8:00am Pacific Time on, produced by WAMU radio in Washington, DC. The program will originate from the studios of KALW in San Francisco and focus on west coast bluegrass musicians. Previously, a portion of Thompson’s 20-year-old “Bluegrass Signal” program on KALW (6:30-8:00pm Saturdays) had been rebroadcast on WAMU’s national online service. The local Saturday program will be unaffected by Thompson’s new duties. The new program launches on March 2.

Center For The Arts Is New Owner Of California Worldfest

Grass Valley’s Center For The Arts is the new owner of California Worldfest — the California World Music Festival — held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. The 19-year-old festival was previously staged by Dan DeWayne of Chico. The 2015 festival will be held July 16-19.

Molly Tuttle of The Tuttles With A. J. Lee, a Palo Alto native and a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music, is now a resident of Nashville, TN.

Some Good-Old-Fashioned, Do-It-Ourselves Bluegrass Radio On Monday Night April 14

kkup-coverage-mapGood Old Fashioned Bluegrass radio will return to the airwaves on “Monday Night Bluegrass,” April 14, 2014. The program will air 6:00-9:00pm on KKUP Radio, 91.5FM in the South Bay & Monterey Bay Areas.

The program host will be Sully Roddy of KFAT fame. The musical guest will be Steep Ravine, which will make its Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival debut August 7-10, 2014.

Michael Hall of the Northern California Bluegrass Society will talk to the members of the hot new band about their music and their appearance at the upcoming Do It Ourselves Festival in Boulder Creek — and complete GOF festival information will also  be available. Two tickets to the DIO Festival will be given away to lucky listeners.
