The monthly SCVFA jam is this Sunday, August 1, 2010 in the Rose
Garden Park. Help us by getting there 11 AM or before to hold 2 tables
- preferably in the shaded area. Bring food for a picnic and invite
your friends! Don't forget your suntan lotion and water. (Rose Garden
Park map: http://tinyurl.com/3ah8wmg)

The Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association's monthly jam is from 1:00
to 5:00 PM. During the summer months on August 1, and September 5,
they will be held at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden Park about a
block from our usual location at the Hoover Middle School (1635 Park
Ave. at Naglee, San Jose). Visit http://www.scvfa.org more information.

Our Beginners Circles (slow jams) in the park are organized
informally. Here's your chance to be a leader.

No one has volunteered to be our newsletter editor yet. The August
Fiddler's Rag was a cooperative effort of myself, Peter Forrest, and
Pete and Dinah Showman. We combined Word 2003 templates into the final
newsletter. Dave Wunsch did a tremendous job tracing the origins of 76
bluegrass songs and tunes listing the writers, its original music
classification, and which major artist recorded it. Pete Hicks'
article on drone strings was just fantastic and accurately described
the strategy for all kinds of double stops. This issue of the
Fiddler's Rag is reason enough to join the SCVFA!

If you enjoy writing and if you would like to put your newsletter
skills to use, this is an opportunity to contribute in a big way to
this organization. There is plenty of content and I have lots and lots
of photos everyone would enjoy. You can use whatever word processing
or newsletter program you want and help locate, edit, and layout
articles of interest to our general membership.

Our new “Featured Performances” series

Would you or your group like to be a Featured Performer on our stage
starting in October?  We give you the publicity with a writeup and
photo in the newsletter. You will entertain us for 20-30 minutes. At
least one person in the group must be an SCVFA member. Let me know if
you are interested.

Fiddlingly yours,
