Bring a blanket, pack a picnic and mosey on over to the Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC) in Foster City for a foot stompin’, knee thumpin’, heel kickin’ good time with two bluegrass favorites: The Wronglers and Margot Leverett & The Klezmer Mountain Boys. The bands hit the stage at the outdoor concert on Sunday, August 16 at 5:00 pm.
The Wronglers (featuring Hardly Strictly Bluegrass founder Warren Hellman along with Chris Hellman, Bill Martin, Krista Martin, Nate Levine, Heidi Clare and Colleen Browne) combine their love of bluegrass, folk and old-time techniques to produce a unique sound that is light on twang and heavy on toe-tapping fun. The band made their stage debut in 2006 at San Francisco’s world famous autumn festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Standing out amongst bluegrass luminaries in itself was a remarkable feat for the players. They were such a resounding success and had such a great time that they’ve been making appearances ever since.
Bluegrass takes a slightly different twist with Margot Leverett & the Klezmer Mountain Boys. Known as the “Jewels of Jewgrass,” the five musicians perform a soulful mix of Klezmer and bluegrass – a winsome blend of music with Jewish content, American roots and a down-home twang. Or as one critic more succinctly observed, “Think Oklahoma! meets Fiddler on the Roof.” The Klezmer Mountain Boys play throughout the country and even received the ultimate accolade: a standing ovation in Kentucky, the birthplace of bluegrass.
