Please join us for opening night of Harry Chapin’s Cotton Patch Gospel on Tuesday November 24th.  Enjoy the show, then join us for wine and dessert after the production! To reserve your two complimentary tickets please respond to this email.  You will receive a confirmation.

This rarely produced gem of a musical is a joyous, funny and poignant re-telling of the gospels set in modern, Southern America.  Jesus Davidson (played by Edward Hightower, along with the other two dozen characters he portrays in the evening), has to face media giants, governors and grits, as well as a conservative, institutionalized church that has no interest in his simple lesson of love and compassion.   Cotton Patch Gospel is directed by Marilyn Langbehn (Willow’s “Spelling Bee”) and musical directed by Rona Siddiqui (Critics’ Circle nominee for Custom Made’s “A New Brain”).

The songs are by the legendary, late singer-songwriter, Harry Chapin (Taxi, Cat’s in the Cradle).  We here at Custom Made are huge fans of Chapin’s music, and when you hear this amazing bluegrass band pluck, pick and strum their way through the 26 songs, we bet you will be too.  Our band is beyond amazing – we don’t understand how we were blessed to find these four world-class musicians, so we haven’t asked.  We just consider it our holiday present to share with you.

They are joined by a stunning trio of singers in Erica Richardson, Katie Kimball and Rona Siddiqui who make the harmonies soar.  And Edward Hightower, playing every role in the show, puts on a tour de force performance that is riveting, honest, funny and emotional.  It is one of the best performances we have ever had on our stage.

Cotton Patch Gospel is the perfect way to kick off your holiday season!

Opening night is Tuesday November 24th  at 8pm.

The Next Stage is at:

1620 Gough St (at Bush, attached to the Trinity Church)

San Francisco

There will be a reception with wine and dessert after the production.

BEST PARKING OPTIONS

Polk/Bush Garage
1399 Bush Street
(415) 567-7816
Open till midnight; Fri-Sat 2am

There is street parking if you leave enough time, or get lucky at the last minute. We recommend parking at about 6:45, put in a quarter or two as the meters end at 7pm, and have a nice dinner at any of the 20 restaurants right around the corner.

But this garage is pretty inexpensive and very close.  You do have to cross Van Ness, which might seem a barrier, but it is really only four blocks away.  You can also get to us with a 10 minute walk from Van Ness and Geary, where there are no shortage of options.

MUNI or BART

From BART or MUNI Underground
Get off at the Montgomery Street Station. Go to the head of Sutter Street and to the bus stop. You may catch either #2 Clement, #3 Jackson or #4 Sutter buses. When the bus crosses Van Ness Avenue ring for the next stop which is the corner of Sutter and Gough Streets. Walk one block north on Gough Street to Trinity Church.

Coming from the avenues to the west, you may take #4 Sutter which will let you off at Post and Gough and you will walk two block north to Trinity Church; #1 California which will let you off at Sacramento and Gough Street and you will walk three block south to Trinity Church, or #38 Geary which will let you off on the far side of Geary/O’Farrell and Gough, just past St. Mary’s Cathedral, and you will walk four block north to Trinity Church.

Coming from the Mission District, take #49 which is the City College bus. Get off at Van Ness and Sutter and walk two blocks west to Sutter and Gough and one block north on Gough Street to Trinity Church.

Other buses that are within a five to six block radius of Trinity Church are the #19 Polk Street bus which comes from Portrero Hill; the #22 Fillmore Street bus which comes from the Marina District at one end of the line and Bernal Heights, Noe Valley, The Castro and the Western Addition on the other end of the line. You can get off this bus at Bush and Fillmore and walk five blocks to Trinity Church.
