Singer-songwriter, fiddle champion, Grammy winner, IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) female vocalist of the year. . . and she loves to come to Fresno with her partner Tom Rozum.
This popular duo return to Fresno the third Friday in September. Laurie is one of the pre-eminent bluegrass and Americana artists of our time. Her songs helped shape the template for the modern bluegrass-pop style. Utah Phillips described her as”one hellacious singer.” You can judge for yourself by going to her website.
You can hear Laurie sing “Val's Cabin” about a place in the Valley and what has happened to it.
And for you birders– you'll love her cd Birdsongs she recorded as a benefit for Audubon Canyon Ranch. The close harmony and minor key of her “Wood Thrush's Song” express the loss of the wood thrush caused by man's intrusion. The song will leave a lump in your throat. You can hear her sing it on her website. http://www.laurielewis.com
Tom Rozum is her performing companion and sideman, complementing her music, always responding to what's going on at the moment. Their concerts sell out because they are so good.
