Folks

Here's an update on Midwest Banjo Camp. Our 2011 Pre-Camp Schedule is now available on our site, as is the latest version of the 2011 Regular Camp Schedule.

Changes in Our 2011 Staff. We've just recently had to replace three of our bluegrass instructors — Eric Weissberg, Bill Keith, and Ryan Cavanaugh — all of whom had to withdraw from participation in Camp this year for personal reasons.  We've acted quickly and come up with three very suitable replacements, namely Eddie Adcock, Gerald Jones, and Alan O'Bryant. For their bios, see our website http://www.midwestbanjocamp.com

At Midwest Banjo Camp, you can study old-time or bluegrass banjo with some of today's best players and teachers in both styles. Our program features hands-on classes, demonstrations and two faculty concerts, and still leaves lots of time for jamming with your fellow banjo enthusiasts.

Here are the particulars:

Dates for MBC Regular Camp: June 3-5, 2011
Dates for “Pre-Camp”: June 2-3, 2011
Place: Olivet College, Olivet, Michigan
Times for Regular Camp: Check-in opens 11 AM on Friday; June 3; Camp ends 2:30 PM on Sunday, June 5
Check-in for Pre-Camp: Opens 3:30PM on Thursday June 2.

The “Pre-Camp”: Our low pressure Pre-Camp Program takes place on the evening of Thursday June 2 and the morning of Friday June 3. It consists of staff-led jams, Q &; A  sessions, and demonstrations. We will also hold a square dance on Thursday evening.

Here's our list of instructors for 2011:

Old-time Banjo: Cathy Barton Para, Paul Brown, Bob Carlin, Dan Gellert, Michael Miles, Ken Perlman, Art Rosenbaum, and Mac Traynham. Terri McMurray is our primary instructor for old-time novices.

Bluegrass Banjo (note revised roster): Eddie Adcock, Janet Beazley, Bill Evans, Murphy Henry, Gerald Jones, James McKinney, Jim Mills, Alan Munde, and Alan O'Bryant. Mike Sumner is our primary instructor for bluegrass novices.

Fiddle Tracks: This year we have two fiddle tracks - one for bluegrass and one for old-time.

Old-time Fiddle. Our principal old-time fiddle instructor this year is Alan Jabbour. Old-time fiddle classes will also be taught by Dan Gellert and Mac Traynham.

Bluegrass Fiddle. Our principal bluegrass fiddle instructor for 2011 is Byron Berline. A couple of bluegrass fiddle classes will be taught by other instructors.

Guitar Track: Our principal instructor in the guitar track is David Grier. A couple of guitar classes will be taught by Dave Para.

Bass Track: Our bass instructors for 2011 are two stalwarts of Michigan's acoustic music scene — Tom Ball and Frank Youngman.
