THREE of California's “leading ladies” of American roots music COME TO LAKE
COUNTY for one special day of BLUEGRASS MUSIC and fun, Saturday, September
12, 2009
Berkeley-based Laurie Lewis, Grammy-award winning singer, songwriter and
fiddler joined by Sonoma based Nina Gerber, guitar player extraordinaire,
and Southern California based Susie Glaze, called “one of the most beautiful
voices in bluegrass,” performing with the Hilonesome Band, will all be
appearing for one day only, Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Anderson
Marsh 4th Annual Old Time Bluegrass Festival. The Festival is held each
year just 30 miles North of Calistoga at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park,
on HWY 53, between the towns of Clearlake and Lower Lake in beautiful Lake
County.
Performing at the Festival will also be master guitarists Jim Nunally and
Dix Bruce, local favorite Pat Ickes with Bound to Ride, the sensational
Mighty Chiplings, plus the talents of Laura & Darrin Smith, Blue Moon, Sarah
Ticheva & Jill Shaul, the Cobb Stompers and Eric Brittain. Not to mention
fantastic fiddling and clogging demonstrations with the Konocti Fiddlers and
the Clearlake Clikkers. Gates open at 9:30 a.m. and the music is non-stop
from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Enjoy this family-friendly event and spend an old-fashioned day in the park.
There'll be special activities for children all day; musician's workshops
led by pros like Jim Williams, Andy Skelton, Don Coffin and others; a wine
and beer garden featuring Lake County wines, Art-in-the Barn and dozens of
food and handicraft booths. There will also be demonstrations of wool
spinning and weaving. Attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments
for workshops and informal jam sessions behind the ranch house.
A scenic 2-hour drive from the Pacific Coast, SF Bay or the Sacramento area,
Lake County has the cleanest air in the state, over 25 local wineries and
many wonderful places to eat, find lodging and visit. Come for the music,
stay and enjoy everything Lake County has to offer. Nearby campgrounds are
available.
The Anderson Marsh Old Time Bluegrass Festival is a yearly community
fundraiser for the natural and historical preservation work of the Anderson
Marsh Interpretive Association (AMIA), and also helps fund local school
programs and service organizations.
. “We are delighted to have so many excellent musicians coming to help
sustain the work of AMIA and support our community,” says event coordinator
Henry Bornstein. ”Along with the music, the food & craft vendors, the art
and the children's activities there will also be raffle drawings throughout
the day. Many wonderful items (goods and services) have been donated by
community members and businesses. One free raffle stub comes with the
purchase of each event ticket and more raffle tickets may be purchased at
the event. This year's festival should be the best yet.”
Appreciation of bluegrass music is enhanced with the right setting and
Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is definitely the right setting for this
event. It's definitely a local country feel-good experience not to be
missed.
“The feeling that I got when I arrived at the festival last year told me
this was something very special”, says Gae Henry, AMIA secretary. ”Like all
great bluegrass events, our festival is about much more than just enjoying
the performers. It's about experiencing and becoming part of the community
both putting on and enjoying the event. We're a county that may not be
large in population but we're very big on 'community.' This festival really
creates the conditions that allow that to shine. Anderson Marsh State
Historic Park is a real jewel - and this gives us the opportunity to share
it and ourselves. When you come you'll have an opportunity to experience
many of the reasons we think this is a fabulous place to live - from the
environment to the people, you will experience a regional community working
together to make sure we support the important things in life for each
other. We're the real deal here.”
The event will happen rain (under cover) or shine and is ADA accessible.
Tickets are reasonably priced at $15 in advance, $20 at the gate and
children 12 and under free when accompanied by an adult.
