Join us this Sunday (Feb. 6) for SCVFA's monthly jam from 1:00 to 5:00
PM at the Hoover Middle School, 1635 Park Ave, San Jose. In addition
to our regular jam, February is when we hold our annual membership
meeting at 3:00 PM.
If you are a member, please take the time to participate. If you
aren't a member, consider joining for $15 per year and get a discount
at the door and have the Fiddler's Rag mailed to you. Details are at
the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association's website: http://www.scvfa.org
or http://www.Fiddlers.org.
Membership Meeting at 3:00 PM
Members will elect two Trustees to 3 year terms, and will vote on
whether to accept the changes to our bylaws that were recommended and
approved by the board in December. The bylaws changes were discussed
in January’s Fiddler’s Rag and are posted online at
http://www.scvfa.org/bylaws.
Beginners Circle
Dave Barton will be teaching our Beginners Circle (Slow Jam) starting
at 2:00 PM. He is a well-respected instructor, plays a variety of
styles, and is an active participant at numerous festivals throughout
the U.S.
Donations to Replace Stolen Sound System
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who made donations to help
us replace our sound equipment that was stolen from our storage locker
just before Christmas. The donors' names will be forthcoming and
included in the Fiddler's Rag. Estimated at about $3,500 for three
speakers, all 8 of our microphones, our mixer, and a few less valuable
things; about two thirds is covered by our insurance policy.
Donations are tax deductible because the SCVFA is a tax-exempt
federally-registered non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and a
state-registered public-benefit non-profit organizations.
Help at the Check-In Desk
Janet, Dinah, and Charlotte spend considerable time at the check-in
desk near the door. Volunteer to help them out so they can enjoy some
of the jam and outdoors too.
Amazon Buyers
Should we partner with more than Amazon? Where Do You Make Online Purchases?
If you purchase from AMAZON.COM, please use the link on the SCVFA
website (lower left side) to access Amazon. The SCVFA gets a small
referral commission on all purchases that cost you nothing extra, and
it really adds up. The Amazon link is at the lower left side of the
SCVFA website (http://www.scvfa.org).
SCVFA DVD and CDs
Don't forget that we have a new DVD of the Twin Fiddling by Arthur Kee
and Jack Sadler with backup by John Lytle, Norio Kawato and Jim True
as they performed on October 3, 2010. It is our gift to you for a $15
donation. We also have 8 CDs from our 1993 archives. The complete list
of some fantastic musicians is at http://www.scvfa.org/SCVFACDs1-8.pdf. You
have a choice of any 1 CD for a $10 donation, or your your choice of 4
CDs for a $30 donation.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Our success depends on those who contribute their time, energy, and
talent. We are always looking for articles for our Fiddler's Rag, so
if you attend an interesting festival or concert and want to write a
few paragraphs about it and share some photos, please email them to me
or to (newsletter@scvfa.org) newsletter (at) scvfa (dot) org.
We still need a newsletter editor, content contributors, someone to be
secretary or treasurer, and a youth activity chairperson.
Fiddlingly yours,
Richard Brooks (email: (President@scvfa.org) President (at) scvfa (dot) org)
