Friendly reminder: Turn your clock back one hour for standard daylight
time or you will arrive one hour early.
This Sunday, November 1, 2009, the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers
Association (http://www.scvfa.org) presents its eighth annual Youth Fiddle
Contest at the Hoover Middle School (1635 Park Ave. at Naglee, San
Jose). It is for youths 16 and under. The contest starts at 1:45 PM.
Of course, we will have our usual jamming outside.
Cheer on these talented youths and help spread the word about this
unique event. We are the only organization that I know that has a
contest wholly devoted to youths.
Parents and music teachers: Please encourage your children and
students (16 and under) who play violin or fiddle to enter the
contest. The contest is low keyed and youths enjoy seeing folks their
own age playing and jamming. Enrollment is limited to 25 contestants.
Contest details are available at
http://www.scvfa.org/contestinfo.shtml.
On-site registration is from 1:00-1:30. On-site registration fee is
$10 and includes one adult admission worth $5. The usual door
admission cost is $5 for adults and children 16 and under are always
free.
Fifteen (15) cash prizes will be awarded - five in each of three
divisions: 8 and under; 11 and under; and 16 and under. Every
contestant will receive a participation ribbon and certificate. The
top three in each division will get a hand-made trophy.
GRAND PRIZE DRAWING: A Grand Prize Drawing will be held at the close
of the 2009 contest. The names of all contestants who performed in the
contest will be entered into a drawing for a student fiddle outfit
(fiddle, bow and case; choice of available sizes) donated by The
Fiddle Guy, Steve Joynes, Violin Restoration and Sales.
** Please come to support our programs and tell your friends. **
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: December 6 is our annual holiday potluck dinner.
Bring a dish to share to serve eight (or four times as many people as
you are bringing). SCVFA will provide meat, water or beverage, plates
and utensils. Details will be in the next Fiddler's Rag and in my
email announcement.
