THE SMOKE BROTHERS (Seattle WA)
When I first heard one of my all-time favorite bluegrass bands were
breaking up I near teared up. Feed & Seed were one of the hottest and
bestest bluegrass bands in the Pacific Northwest! But lucky for me, lucky
for us, members of Feed & Seed have formed another band, the Smoke
Brothers. However, this time 'round the boys are playing old-school
country music. The band is inspired by some of the all time greats;
Waylon, Paycheck, Garcia, George, booze and marijuana. Personally, I'm
really looking forward to this show!

SUPER BLUEGRASS WEEKEND vol. 5
The official unofficial Hardly Strictly Bluegrass after party!
Featuring: Bucky Walters + Mad Cow String Band + CitiGrass + Hang Jones
Want more bluegrass? Come to the after party and see 4 of the baddest
bluegrass bands 'round. This is my 5th year hosting this little shindig,
and proudest line up yet, which features 3 of my favorites and one all the
way from New York…them damn Yankees sure play some killer bluegrass.
DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!
BUCKY WALTERS' (Arcata) name may sound like some folk legend or baseball
player, but Bucky Walters is also an up-and-coming band hailing from the
soggy bottoms of Humboldt County. Their sound has a nostalgic bluegrass
vibe that maintains a fresh, hot-pickin’ intensity, attracting music lovers
across the board.

MAD COW STRING BAND (Davis) have been keeping their enthusiastic fans
dancing to their brand of high energy string band music since 2003.
Somewhere along the way, the raw, youthful enthusiasm they poured into
their music morphed into a unique sound that mixes bluegrass, old-time,
and country. As they huddle around an old radio-style microphone, the boys
captivate crowds with their tight instrumentation and soaring harmonies
during their rowdy and exciting shows. Mad Cow are ALWAYS A HIT at both
Super Bluegrass Weekend and SF Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival.

CITIGRASS (NY) specializes in blending rock and jam influences with
traditional bluegrass to create a hot, modern sound. Born and bred in New
York City, Citigrass is described by Bluegrass Unlimited as “Bluegrass
with a modern slant, the music of Citigrass is filled with intensity bound
up with a bit of naughtiness that will delight anyone who appreciates
bluegrass with an attitude.” Individually, the members of Citigrass have
performed or recorded with such artists as Paul McCartney, Lenny Kravitz,
The Who, Ornette Coleman, Perry Ferrell, and Prince - as well as work on
the soundtrack of the new Billy-Bob Thornton movie, 'Astronaut Farmer' and
a private performance for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, plus
sit-ins by Phish-bassist Mike Gordon.

HANG JONES (SF) play dirty backwoods Americana – part bluegrass, part
country, part pekingese. “Hang Jones sounds like a loose and raucous
collaboration of Steve Earle and Kurt Cobain on a hot July front porch
night.” – Twang Nation

AMERICANA JUKEBOX: Hillbilly Music For The 21st Century!
Featuring: Misisipi Rider + Whisky Richards + Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass
Boys + The Bluegrass Revolution
As you may know I host “Americana Jukebox” every 1st Saturday at the
Plough & Stars (116 Clement, SF) and the show features some of the hottest
bands in town,..honky-tonk, rockabilly, cajun, bluegrass,
western-swing,…this is a special traveling edition of the show — at
Slim's!
MISISIPI RIDER (SF)
San Francisco's own super-group of red-hot pickers, singers, preachers,
wood carvers, doll makers, whiskey drinkers, and dance hall girls. Born on
the banks of the Mississippi River, brothers Misisipi Mike and Cree Rider
came into bluegrass and Americana music through their stepfather and
legendary banjo master John Hartford. As young boys they toured up and
down the Mississippi River on a steamboat, not as musicians, as one would
think, but swabbing it's deck and posing naked for infamous cartoonist R
Crumb. http://www.myspace.com/misisipiriders
THE WHISKY RICHARDS (SF)
These six young honky-tonkers came together through the San Francisco
bluegrass scene and emerged with a fresh, energetic and exciting new sound
for California alt-country and Americana music. They blend tradition with
innovation in their mix of creative original music and fresh takes on
classic country, bluegrass, and old-time tunes. Telecaster twang, fiery
fiddle, rowdy-as-hell harp, fine harmonies, and driving rhythm set the
Whisky Richards apart from the pack - these honky-tonkers will get your
boots stompin' and your heart pounding!

BELLE MONROE & HER BREWGLASS BOYS (SF)
While the band has a great appreciation for traditional bluegrass music,
they don't quite play it straight; they inject a bit of blues, a smidgen
of swing, and a whole lot of fun and frenetic energy. If you like
hard-driving bluegrass infused with positive energy and heartfelt
showmanship, then Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys will be just your pint
of brew! http://www.brewglassboys.com/
THE BLUEGRASS REVOLUTION (Oakland)
The Bay Area's hardest working bluegrass band…and when they play, they
bring it! Their music is a mix of bluegrass, jam-grass, new-grass, and
progressive bluegrass…and when they play, they bring it!…oh I already
said that. http://www.thebluegrassrevolution.com/

JASON HEATH & THE GREEDY SOULS (LA)
This rowdy band couple rough-and-ragged folk and country strains with punk
idealism and directness on their debut full-length, The Vain Hope of
Horse, resulting in a sound that is as instantly familiar as it is
convention-defying - it's sure to strike a chord with those who keep
Springsteen and The Clash side-by-side in their record collections.

RECORD RELEASE PARTY with the Earl Brothers!
San Francisco's best kept Hillbilly secret, THE EARL BROTHERS (SF) are
back with another amazing CD and bringing it home for one & all to enjoy.
It's been ten years since they started working on a style that has become
their unique trademark — modern-day outlaw mountain hillbilly
music…sure that's a long name, but the Earls are worth every word.
The Earl Brothers are proud to announce their new 4th CD “The Earl
Brothers” aka, the White Album, with original songs about rounders,
ramblers, and broken-hearted fools. This will be a rarer opportunity to
see the boys in black in action - live on the stage at one of the Bay
Area's premier music venues. Don't miss this show!

BLIND LEMON PLEDGE (SF)
A bowl of old-time country blues, a serving of rock, a dash of New
Orleans, and a teaspoon of pop, all flavored with a unique songwriting
sensibility, create the tasty gumbo that is Blind Lemon Pledge. Their new
album “I Would Rather Go Blind” is a toe-tapping synthesis of the many
elements that come together to form the music of this San Francisco-based
acoustic blues quartet. With influences from Muddy Waters to 20’s jazz to
The Rolling Stones, Blind Lemon Pledge mixes classic standards and
sparkling originals to create a bluesy repast that will make you smile.
