The 9th annual Youth Fiddle Contest for those 16 and under will be held on
Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 1-5 PM at the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers
Association's jam on the first Sunday of each month at the Hoover Middle
School in San Jose. See http://www.Fiddlers.org for map and details.
People come from all over Northern California to enjoy this entertaining and
rewarding event. Some are as young as 5 and have dressed in western hat and
boot outfits. Contestants play two tunes within 4 minutes total - one
traditional tune - any tradition - and a tune of choice - any style. It is
limited to 25 contestants because of time constraints. The contest rules and
entry forms are at http://www.scvfa.org/contest.
Please encourage youths to enter. It gives young fiddlers a chance to meet
their peers, to be recognized and appreciated for their efforts, and be
awarded prizes for their accomplishments. Our Youth Fiddle Contest is part
of SCVFA's youth activities program.
We give 15 awards - five in each of three age divisions (8-, 11-, and 16 and
under). In addition to the 15 cash awards, we give custom-made trophies for
the 1st place winners in each division, and certificates and ribbons for
everyone.
We are seeking supporters to help with the cost of the $440 cash awards and
other contest expenses. A Supporter ($25+) will be listed in the event
program guide and may display flyers and business cards at the contest.
Sponsors ($100, $200, and $300+) get the above benefit, a business card size
ad in the program guide, verbal acknowledgement on stage, and one, two, or
three business card size ads in the Fiddler's Rag, our monthly newsletter,
depending on the donation amount.
The benefits for each level are listed at
http://www.scvfa.org/contestSp…..sors10.pdf. Funds not used for the contest will be
used for our youth activities program that includes our KidFiddle workshops
taught by professionals.
