Arts promoters to host music and arts benefit celebrating Humboldt County’s independent and creative spirit.

REDWAY, CALIFORNIA. On Saturday, March 13th, 2010, the greater Humboldt County community and visitors are invited to attend UP LIFT: A Benefit for Casterlin School to be held at the Mateel Community Center.  Hosted by creative arts organization Evolve 2 Advance, UP LIFT will feature bluegrass, rock, Americana, klezmer and country, bringing together live music, art, and food to celebrate spring, community, and sustainability. The event will benefit the Casterlin Elementary School; a small K-8 school in the hills of Southern Humboldt County serving a rural population that would otherwise have to travel an hour or more on the bus to attend one of the region’s other schools. The UP LIFT event aims to support fundraising efforts by the school’s PTSA in order to continue providing all K-8 students in their rural area with an excellent education.  Fresh, organic and local food creations offered by the Casterlin PTSA to include posole verde (pork), cheese and chicken enchiladas with salad, rice and beans. Snack and desserts will benefit the school directly along with the dinner options. Beer and wine will be available for patrons 21+.

Live entertainment will feature musicians Hot Buttered Rum, Stoney Holiday, West County Outlaws, Stonar and The Brass Menagerie.  Headliners Hot Buttered Rum and their infectious blend of American styles—folk, rock, jazz, and new-grass, make no separation between their music and their activism. They unapologetically undergird their shows with songs about social equality, environmental responsibility, and political change, and then back it up by touring in a bio-fueled bus. The band’s vibrant egalitarian structure, in which all five members contribute equally, results in an energetic exchange and magnetic chemistry seen most clearly in the band’s transfixing live performances. The early portion of the evening will feature art and music participation by the Casterlin students who will join The Brass Menagerie on stage for a festive celebration, supported in part by the Humboldt Area Foundation.

Based out of Lowell, Massachusetts, Frank Casazza is the artist and creator behind +Eyeformation+. His organic live painting style will be featured at UP LIFT and throughout Evolve2Advance’s spring/summer art festival series.  Jesse Mosher, Rock n’ Roll Folk Artist from San Francisco will bring his raw, emotive style to the artists’ stage with creations made from reused or repurposed materials.  Team Space Pirate painter/illustrator J will feature his signature style, Doodlism, an art form based on allowing creativity to simply flow through self-manifestation. Evolve2Advance’s highlights will include new prints and apparel by Ratio, Team Space Pirate, & Outer Soul.

The Mateel Community Center, a non-profit organization, facilitates and nurtures the community's capacity for creative self-expression. Their venue, a showcase of fine woodwork and solar design, has room for 800.  The Mateel is located off the US Highway 101 Redway exit, a large, blue-roofed building at the top of the hill directly off Redwood Dr. Tickets are available online at http://inticketing.com or at The Works in Eureka and Arcata as well as at Redway Liquor & Deli, across from the venue.
