Eclectic public radio stations — the kind that have regular bluegrass shows — are under tremendous financial pressure these days. This is a good time to tune in and listen — and a good time to tangibly support these fragile enterprises. On April 23, 2011, two such stations offer a special opportunity to get involved:

Evening performers (beginning at 6:30pm) are two Bay Area bluegrass bands, the Bay Island Ramblers from Alameda, and Kitchen Help from Redwood City.

Windy Hill Radio Thursday Night: Club Fox, GOF Band On KZSU-Stanford

Windy Hill, Portola Valley’s favorite bluegrass band, will appear live on Thursday’s ”That’s Not Bluegrass Show” with Sarah Bellum 8:00-10:00pm on KZSU-Stanford, 90.1FM in the Central and South Bay and online.

kzsuroundThe band has a big week and a big summer on tap. On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, Windy Hill will perform at the Club Fox (formerly, the Little Fox) in downtown Redwood City. The band will play several summer festivals around California, including the August 12-14 NCBS Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival in Tres Pinos.

The radio appearance will introduce this hot new traditional bluegrass band to new fans. Enjoy!

Sunday Radio: Good Old Fashioned Band OMGG On KPFA

The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival will be featured on KPFA Radio, 94.1 FM throughout Northern California and online everywhere this Sunday, August 1 from 3:00-5:00pm.  The rising stars of OMGG will talk about their appearance on the main stage at the GOF and discuss their music and film careers. The band will also perform live on the air. “Pig In A Pen” Host Ray Edlund will give away GOF tickets to station donors and interview NCBS President Michael Hall about the August 13-15, 2010 festival.
